We are pleased to support one of our patient’s and her family in their venture this June to raise money for the Wolfson Cystic Fibrosis Centre in Nottingham. Sponsorship forms will be available at reception or donations can be given directly http://www.justgiving.com/coast2coastbysteam
Village Chiropractic Clinic has offered to provide one free chiropractic appointment with Jenny Hudson to all those participating in the coast to coast steam tractor journey.
What we are doing – Driving Morning Star, an Aveling and Porter Steam Tractor built in 1926, across the widest part of the British Isles; that is from St David’s in Wales to Lowestoft in England.
Why are we doing it – A member of our family has Cystic Fibrosis (CF). She is being looked after by the Wolfson Cystic Fibrosis Centre at Nottingham University Hospital. We want to raise funds for the Wolfson Centre to help them in their work and to say thank you for the care received so far.
Our aim is that all proceeds from this run go to the Wolfson Centre for much needed equipment.
Who is doing it – The crew and support team will be made up of members of the Durling family and our friends; we’re hoping that six or seven of us will complete this run of approximately 400 miles in a week.
When will it happen – this run will be completed between 18th to 26th June 2016.
What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system, although it is also associated with co-morbidities such as liver disease and diabetes. People with CF have a shortened life span (the current life expectancy is around 40 years) and there is still no known cure. It affects approximately 8500 people in the UK.
CF is progressive, mostly affecting the digestive tract and lungs. Treatment is centred around close monitoring of symptoms and early, aggressive intervention. Managing cystic fibrosis is complex and requires daily regimes of physiotherapy and drugs (to help clear or prevent infections and to aid digestion) plus regular hospital visits and admissions.
We are raising money for the Wolfson Cystic Fibrosis Centre at Nottingham hospital. This centre opened in April 2014 and is the newest specialist centre in the UK aimed at treating adults with CF. This state of the art centre has transformed the lives and treatment of adults with CF and we are fundraising to help them continue to meet the needs of patients and ensure the facilities can be used to their full potential.
